Marjorie, with her husband Gordon, founded ETS Laboratories in 1978. The original lab was started in the basement of their home in St. Helena and focused on the analytical needs of the local wineries. In the succeeding years, ETS has grown to become the leading private analytical wine laboratory in the world.

Marjorie received her BS in Biological Sciences from UC Davis. She continued her graduate studies in Viticulture and Enology with Dr. Cornelius Ough and worked as a research assistant in Dr. Ough’s lab. Marjorie received a Masters degree in Microbiology conducting research on wine yeast and the effect of solids on fermentation rates in white wine. Marjorie is a TTB certified chemist for analysis of wines and distilled spirits.

Marjorie gained hands on winery production experience at several Napa Valley wineries. She also began the fledging wine program at Napa Community College, teaching Wine Appreciation Courses and basic Winemaking courses that utilized hands on, small lot fermentations in her basement laboratory, to many winery owners and winemakers.

Both Marjorie and Gordon are professional members of the American Society for Enology & Viticulture, the Association of Official Analytical Chemists, the American Society of Microbiology, the American Chemical Society, and the American Council of Independent Laboratories.

Since its founding, Marjorie has focused on developing and expanding the analytical and technical expertise of ETS Laboratories to meet the constantly changing needs and demands of the wine industry, as well as being a positive force in the local community.

ETS Laboratories is a proud sponsor of the summer reading program in St. Helena California and in McMinnville, Oregon. Marjorie is a former member of the Angwin Community Council. She has organized an Angwin Community Clean Up Day and spearheaded the drive to obtain non profit status for the Angwin Volunteer Fire Department. Marjorie is also the team Manager of the Napa Gunners soccer club team.

Marjorie and Gordon live in Angwin with their two sons, Kingsley and Austin, and their dog Lily.
