Microscopic Examination
Microscopic Examination is a rapid screening method for the detection of yeast and bacteria. Direct microscopic examinations provide qualitative results of the microorganisms and other components. More advanced techniques include qualitative or quantitative viability counts and arrays of digital imaging options. ETS uses some of the most advanced microscopic techniques available. We perform light microscopy utilizing bright field, phase contrast and Nomarski (differential interference contrast) modes. We also utilize epi-fluorescence to identify specific spoilage microbes. Light/phase contrast microscopy is available at all three ETS locations. Standard microscopic results are ready within one working day of sample submission. The St. Helena laboratory has additional microscopic capabilities. Standard Applications
